Eyelash Extensions: Here’s What You Need to Know

Longer and fuller eyelashes can go a long way toward making your makeup look spectacular. However, false eyelashes can be cumbersome, and mascara doesn’t typically produce the same level of results.

Eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent way to get the full fringe of eyelashes you want without the daily chore of eye makeup.

What to Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions

Are you getting eyelash extensions for the first time? Here are some things to consider.

Great-looking lashes: With eyelash extensions, you’ll wake up looking ready for the runway. Some have even said that their extensions diverted attention from their dark under-eye circles, letting then go concealer-free.

Mascara-free: Your morning routine won’t involve battling mascara clumps or flakes, and you’ll avoid smudges and runny eyes even during the heaviest rainstorms and the saddest movies.

Customizable: One size doesn’t fit all, so choose your eyelash extensions to match your eye shape, desire for length or volume, and personal style.

Maintenance: You’ll need to care for eyelash extensions differently than your typical routine, and you’ll need to visit the salon for fill-ins regularly.

Time: There are timing trade-offs. Having eyelash extensions will cut time from your morning routine, but you’ll need to spend time on regular trips to the salon for maintenance.

Expense: The cost for eyelash extensions can be significant based on your location and the salon that you attend. On average, an initial set of eyelash extensions costs between $140 and $450. However, the eyelash extensions that are available at select Texas locations of Ogle School salon cost only $65 to $85. These affordable rates are possible because services are performed by supervised students in a professional salon setting.

Caring for Your Eyelash Extensions

For the first 48 hours after getting eyelash extensions, avoid getting your lashes wet. Avoid the sauna, and be mindful when you wash your face and shower because the glue can take awhile to dry fully.

While you have your extensions, avoid using oil-based products or heavy creams around your eyes. This will help preserve the adhesives and make your lashes last longer. Additionally, don’t use mascara on your lashes, because this additional weight could damage or break for extensions. Avoid mechanical eyelash curlers, too.

To groom your eyelashes, use a spoolie wand like those used to apply mascara, and use an eyelash serum or conditioner that’s compatible with your extensions.

Most importantly, avoid rubbing your eyes, as this can cause your extensions to detach.

Every two to four weeks, visit your salon for eyelash touch-ups and repair. The care of your eyelash extensions should always be done by professionals to avoid damaging your natural lashes.
