Amberley Ramirez: Beautiful Stories

I’ve always been really interested in beauty, hair and makeup. Growing up, I was the girly girl out of my family. I just wanted to do something that I could bring that passion into a job that I would enjoy.

What are you most passionate about?

I’m really passionate about the places that it can take you. When I first started school, I was just like, “Yeah, you go to a salon and do hair.” Then after I got in, I started talking to instructors and different staff members and you realize just how far you can go in this industry. I didn’t even think about runways or theater or anything like that. It’s just amazing how far you can take this. You can travel all over the world to just do hair.

What challenges have you faced while pursuing your career in the industry?

I would definitely say balancing. I’m a mom, I’m a wife, student. I work at nights. Just trying to find a balance between all of those, giving my attention 100% to all of them so I can be the best I can be at everything and make sure sure not to take too much away from somebody else. Definitely the balance in all of it.

What advice would you give someone in a similar situation?

I would say just don’t give up. Keep going. There’s been so many times when I’m, “That’s it. I can’t do this any more. It’s too hard.” I feel like I’m missing too much out on my daughter. That’s not fair to her. That’s not fair to me. As a mom, you just have that real maternal thing about you. You just want to be there for everything. Just do it while they’re young if you can. That’s what my mom always told me, “She’s young, Amberley, she’s not going to remember this. Do it now so when she’s older and in school and all these activities, you can be there for all of it.” That was one of my big reasons for wanting to do cosmetology. I can set my schedule, so I don’t have to miss any of my daughter’s activities every.

What inspires you?

What inspires me is getting that light up out of them. I want every single client that sits in my chair when I’m done, for them to have their look on their face, to be like, “Oh my gosh,” because that’s going to make them come back to me. Then that’s going to make them tell their friends.

Do you feel you’ve had an impact on your clients?

I have several regulars, some who come once a month, some who come every week. I have a couple that come every single week. I just love chatting with them. They tell me everything. It’s like a bond with them.

Everyone has a story.

This was Amberley’s.
