Anadelia Cabrera Accidentally Discovers Her Passion

It can sometimes feel like you’ve stumbled backward into something that you really love, and Anadelia Cabrera definitely felt that when she discovered her passion for beauty due to a desire to help her dad out with his hair. Keep reading to find out more about how Anadelia ended up studying beauty and how that became her passion.

Anadelia Cabrera’s Discovery

What made you interested in cosmetology?

It’s a funny story. My dad’s barber got old! He just couldn’t do my dad’s hair anymore and my dad really wanted somebody who could do his hair because he’s got some crazy stuff going on with his hair. And he was like, “Hey, you’re not doing anything with your life, go learn how to cut my hair.” And I said, “Well, okay!” So I walked in toward the campus, fell in love, signed up, started a week later, and realized this is what I needed in my life all along and I didn’t even know.

Why did you choose Ogle School?

When I came in for admissions, and talked to everybody, and saw everybody, and saw the salon-oriented experience, I saw so many clients coming in, I saw people working, it looked like the real deal. Ogle is the real deal. You get financial aid. You get the education. You get hands-on experience. And you get the top-of-the-line instructors here. I think that right away, I knew Ogle was the place to be. I got chills the first time I walked in.

It was kind of nerve-wracking. I was sweating. They asked me a bunch of really great questions and I didn’t know the answers. So I actually went back home and analyzed my situation. I thought about who I wanted to be, and who I am, and that was probably one of the hardest nights of my life. And I came back up here and took the tour, and they asked me the questions again. I realized my life wasn’t where I wanted it to be. And to get there, I needed to work really hard. I realized that I found my new home, and it was in the beauty industry.

What is your support network like?

I’m a single mom of three. I wasn’t working, I didn’t have any money, and I didn’t have a babysitter. Part of what got me motivated to keep on going was my foundation of a family. My family stepped in and decided, “Okay, if this is your career, it’s what you want to do with your life, we’re going to help you. And I was really nervous when they said that because then I was like, “This is real. I’m going to do this. This is going to be me.”

My Aunt Christine stepped up and she was just like, “I’m in. I’m going to help you.” My mom stepped up and she said, “Anything you need, we got it.” My boyfriend was like, “You need money for gas, anything you need to help pay for the babysitter, we got you.” It’s just a big safety net that kind of just held me and kept me up. And they still, to this day, keep me very motivated. My family’s amazing.

What do you love about the beauty industry?

I think it’s the end process. With the final touches when I do a men’s cut, rubbing my hands through their hair just to make the final look come about, and a small neck massage. And with my women clients, just the final touches around the face, framing the face, and when I turn their chair around, and they’re like, “That’s me?” And I’m like, “And I did that?” But that is them.

I love bringing out the best in people and even trying new things. People will say, “Oh, I’ve never done that before, that looks great,” or I’ve made them look younger or made them feel better. I think that’s the part I like the most. When your clients see how happy you’ve made them by just a couple of flicks of a wrist in here and there, and they’re a new person, it brings new life to them and makes them be the best they can be.

What are your goals?

I want to be the stylist that people say, “Oh, my gosh, she’s amazing. But it’s not just the way she does my hair. It’s the way she makes me feel.” And I’ve already been offered a job at a really fantastic salon. They’re wonderful and great. And I do plan to go there, but I also want to build myself up. I want to be an entrepreneur. I want to have my own salon because I feel like I’m unique and I want to bring that to my clientele. And I want to learn as much as I can from anybody and everybody to build myself up, so I can give my client the best me, to give them the best them.
