How To Get The Perfect No-Makeup Look

Let’s be honest, despite what you see on TV and social media, most of us don’t wake up looking like a newborn cherub. Whether you have busy mornings or just don’t want to spend the time on full glam every day, the no-makeup look is great for anyone who wants to enhance their natural beauty.

  1. Start with skincare

One important key to achieving a beautiful natural look is to give your natural skin the love it needs. Nailing down your skincare by focusing on your skin’s specific needs and repeating this daily will help to bring out your skin’s natural glow. Seeing a skincare professional and giving yourself some self-love once in a while doesn’t hurt either, but your journey to glowing skin begins at home.

Makeup is an art form, so you can think of it as painting a picture. What’s the first thing you need besides your tools and paint? A nice, clean canvas. Having hydrated skin helps makeup not look too cakey or unnatural once you put it on.  One great tip is to use liquid and cream products instead of powders. This will enhance natural features and help you achieve the look you want.

GLOW Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist $28 at Sephora. This mist will wake up your skin and give it that refreshing boost of hydration it needs. It’s made with an 84% blend of juicy watermelon and packed with vitamins and antioxidants in combination with hyaluronic acid to plump and lock in moisture.  Hibiscus flower AHA will soften and smooth your skin to get it prepped for your makeup.

Makeup Revolution’s Skincare Hyaluronic Essence Spray $7 at Target is another great option to refresh and hydrate skin pre-makeup. Containing hyaluronic acid in combination with grapefruit extract leaves skin feeling soft, quenched, and prepped for makeup.

  1. Foundation is optional

When it comes to the foundation it’s all about individual preference. Some people like to skip it while others want the added coverage. A light layer of tinted moisturizer is great if you want to start with a flawless complexion and even up your skin tone.

KOSAS Tinted Face Oil Foundation $42 This foundation is packed with skin-loving ingredients to treat your skin so you don’t have to feel as bad as having makeup on all day. With nourishing avocado, jojoba, and rosehip seed oils to name just a few, it leaves your skin smooth and natural-looking while keeping it healthy and balanced at the same time

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 $11.99 This moisturizer/skin-tint is both good for your skin and beautiful coverage with a natural finish. With the SPF, plus vitamins A, C, and E combined, this foundation is made to boost your skin’s natural vibrancy.

  1. Conceal as needed

Concealer is another totally optional step, depending on how much time you have and how much you want to cover up. Concealer isn’t critical to the no-makeup look, but it can help you look refreshed and hide any pesky blemishes you may want to cover up.

Marc Jacobs Extra Shot Caffeine Concealer and Foundation $39 from Sephora is a great option 2-in-one if you want to skip steps by combining your foundation and concealer, plus it has the awesome benefit of caffeine, which wakes skin up and helps get rid of those tired eyes. The formula is vegan, long-lasting, and hydrating for your skin too.

CoverGirl  Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer $11.99 from Ulta. A hydrating concealer infused with coconut milk and aloe extract. This vegan and cruelty-free formula is great for keeping skin plump and adding some extra glow.

  1. Eyeshadow but make it natural

Use skin neutral shades to mesmerize while still keeping the minimalist agenda by adding some warmth to your lids. One neat hack beauty lovers use for the no-makeup look is to use bronzer as eyeshadow. Another for making sure it lasts? Applying a bit of concealer to your lids works as a great primer to keep your shadow in place all day.

Smashbox Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette: Minimalist $29 from Ulta offers a versatile palette of neutrals you can mix and match to create your own looks. Cruelty-free with a range of shades, you choose whether to spice it up or keep it cool.

Burt’s Bees | Eyeshadow Trio at $12.99 Sweet natural-toned trios with natural ingredients to go with your natural look. Made with honey, bamboo, and vitamin E, it’s sweet to your skin and offers shades to compliment any skin tone.

  1. Apply mascara (if you want)

If you want to add a nice finishing touch and make your eyes pop, mascara is the way to go. Using a lash curler beforehand gives beautiful volume and makes a difference in your look.

Perricone MD | No Makeup Mascara $30 This brand has a whole line of skincare-based makeup that’s made for natural, no-makeup looks. This mascara lifts and thickens your lashes while giving them a nourishing treatment.
Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara $7.49 at Target. Made with sweet almond that protects and olive oil to penetrate your lashes, sweep it on for fuller, conditioned lashes with more definition.

The no-makeup look is an easy, customizable beauty look that’s catching on because of how it enhances your natural beauty. Opt for even more glow by adding a bit of highlight or blush to your cheeks, and using a lip balm or neutral shade lipstick can bring a bit more color to your face if you want it! Many makeup brands are jumping on the skincare trend and creating makeup that is better for you and your skin. Depending on preference and your personal skin needs you can easily achieve the no-makeup look, too.
