Five Things Beauty School Taught Me

If you are thinking about attending beauty school, or are soon to start your cosmetology course, you probably can’t wait to learn all the latest beauty and hair techniques and put them into practice. You will learn lots of beauty theories and beauty techniques, but they are not the only lessons you will learn in beauty school. They may not even be the most important lesson that you learn as you will pick up valuable life skills and even discover things about yourself.

Without patience you will find it difficult to survive beauty school. You are very unlikely to pick up all the new techniques straight away and at times you are going to get frustrated. You will have no choice but to learn to be patient and keep trying until you get to grips with the new techniques. Furthermore, you will be training in a real salon environment, dealing with real clients. It is safe to say that some of your client encounters will be ‘difficult’ – you will need to be patient with these clients, to ensure that the outcome is positive for all. In beauty school you will soon figure out, that a key part of working with others is patience.

To Be A Professional

Throughout beauty school, you will be working in a real salon with real clients. From observing others at work, you will learn how to professionally engage with clients, and how to act when in the salon. You will also see what it takes to be a responsible employee and stylist, being able to work alongside other stylists. These are lessons that you will take well beyond your time at beauty school. They will certainly help you in your future careers, as well as helping you to build a loyal client base.

If cosmetology is really your passion, then you will learn what real dedication is, at beauty school. You will have to dedicate so much time to studying, practicing and preparing for exams that you will live and sleep beauty. You will receive such wonderful support, that you will feel empowered to do your best, and feel the rewards in that. Even if your dedication doesn’t always result in success, you will feel proud that you gave your all and that will give you the confidence to try again. If you carry this level of dedication with you, once you finish beauty school, you are sure to have a successful career.

Whie at beauty school, you will discover a level of creativity you didn’t know had. As you confidence grows, you will be inspired to try ever new things —styles, techniques, trends. You will get the opportunity to attend hair shows and beauty shows, which really allow you to push the boundaries of your creativity. Untapping your potential to be creative will really help you to learn what styles, colors etc. that will work for each of your clients. This personal touch will certainly help build a loyal client base.

Never Stop Learning

The world of beauty is one that is always changing and evolving, and as a result, you should not restrict your learning to beauty school. New trends and techniques will arise rather often, so your learning will never stop if you want to keep up to date. It may seem like you will always be studying, but you will never get bored. There will always been something new and exciting to try and probably plenty of willing volunteers to practice on.
